Yes...the last several months of his life he grew it long.

His brilliant last speech about civil rights at his library in December dead in January at 64
-
If I recall from a documentary, during the speech he puts a pill in his mouth. It’s was nitroglycerin! Having a heart attack but kept going. Plenty of faults but a bull of a man & politician.

McGovern was among the most honorable, intelligent, and moral politicians to ever run for the US Presidency.
-
McGovern was a true war hero. Faced down death.

He died so much younger than I thought. After JFK, he looked 75. His presidency was like a Greek tragedy with so much potential greatness in the civil rights and War on Poverty campaigns, lost to hubris in the cost of Vietnam.

Eagleton had been thrown under the golf cart.
-
Eagleton never told McGovern about personal “skeletons.” Eagleton admitted on Dick Cavitt’s show that there “was never a day that passed that I was sure ‘this would be the day’ it would be revealed.” I liked Tom Eagleton, but he should’ve been honest with McGovern.

My very first vote was for McGovern.
-
Mine too. It was also the vote I am most proud of. Would gladly do it again.

What would you pay to watch him take down Trump in a debate?
