160 years ago today in Springfield, Senatorial candidate Abraham Lincoln said, “A house divided against itself cannot stand. I believe this government cannot endure, permanently, half slave and half free.”pic.twitter.com/4kkbRb8OSk

Where Lincoln sought to unite the country for the benefit of all, Trump seeks to divide the country for personal profit and power.

What’s really scary is that when Trump is finally pushed out of office (either by being voted out or other means) he will encourage his followers to start a civil war. He cares more about himself than the US.

Our country is currently facing its greatest crisis since the Civil War. Only time will tell whether or not we can withstand it.

Very true — and I don’t see him leaving the White House voluntarily. What will happen when he is ejected is anyone’s guess, but it will definitely be a crisis situation.

My paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union, and is not either to save or to destroy slavery. If I could save the Union without freeing any slave I would do it, and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing some

and leaving others alone I would also do that. What I do about slavery, and the colored race, I do because I believe it helps to save the Union; - A. Lincoln letter to Horace Greeley, 8/22/1862

I believe Lincoln, along with Thomas Jefferson, and many others believed that sending previously enslaved People back to Africa was the best logical solution. Some indeed were.

If you are an American, study #Lincoln. Study #Grant. Study #FredrickDouglass. Every day. Then repeat. Every day. There are few greater examples of struggling with Q’s of morality &, more often than not, doing the right thing. #History matters. Big time. #USHistory #BetterAngels

To my American friends who are looking for inspiration this coming July 4 listen at least once to Aaron Copeland’s A Lincoln Portrait. My favourite recording has narration by the famed American poet Carl Sandburg. ❤️🎶

We have so more in common than what seperates us. The rich have succeed in having us peasants fighting amongst ourselves while they rape and pillage.
