You mean like John McCain?
You mean the songbird?
My father, who was a Captain in the Navy, and who fought valiantly at the Battle of Leyte Gulf and at Iwo Jima, once heard Ike speak years later in Boston. "Character," said General Eisenhower, "never sleeps."
My uncle was at the Battle of Leyte Gulf...one of the Navy pilots decorated with a Navy Cross.
I thank your uncle through you. My family were Japanese captives liberated soon afterwards.
God bless them. It was my Dad - my uncles fought in Europe - but they would all be appreciative!

What a treasure of a photo. We are very proud of their service. In WWII and beyond.
Had a great discovery in an old book last weekend...a photo of my Dad (on left) with two flying buddies W.C. Robinson & L.E. Peterson. Note in my Dad's hand on back says: "Pete is my buddy-rancher from Nebraska."pic.twitter.com/2mT9qMAnqh
Your heart must have leapt. What is the book?
When true leaders sat in the Oval Office
I have never seen this photo before! What a terrible burden to be Supreme Allied Commander in Europe during the Invasion of Normandy. The lives of hundreds of thousands of men that General Eisenhower was ultimately responsible for...
Many mistakes were made, which have been kept fairly quiet, but they did their damnedest to save men.
with any plan the size of Operation Overlord there were bound to be mistakes in planing or events one really could not plan for. I have not seen this picture but it captures Ike for the person he was. He was able to take the responsibility. A ture man.
Absolutely true! Mistakes were made and he didn't run from responsibility. The Best soldier for the job! Later though, He turned a blind eye to McCarthy, which really tarnished his reputation, to say the least. Still, a man of great service to America
Interesting, Paul, what you said re McCarthy...I didn't know Eisenhower tolerated such a divisive, dangerous figure in 1940s/1950s America. The understandable fear of Fascism & Communism created the 'loyalty program'. Ominous now that Trump is redoing it...
Isn't it! Yes, Ike was VERY quiet about McCarthy and his demagoguery. Afraid!?! A real shame! Ike's Sec of Army broke the fraud during Senate hearings when he stood up to him. YouTube has clips! Thanks for your reply
