Salute & GOD BLESS
4th of July! RIP Respect.
Thank you
So very sad. My dad was a proud Marine Master Sgt. who fought so hard on the islands in the Pacific. Tarawa was the worst and he saw so many things that a human being should never have to see. He was one of the lucky ones that came home. Miss him so much

My junior high biology teacher landed at Tarawa. My friend's older brother told us he incorporated his story into the lesson once a year. As a WWII buff, I waited for months in anticipation & when the day finally came it was absolutely riveting. I will never forget it.
It was the hardest fought battle in the Pacific. The Japs had bunkers on the edge of the beach and when the Marines came into shore they were pummeled with gun fire. I have a book about the 2nd. Marine Div. WWII that tells it all with photos! Dad was so lucky to have survived!
Yes, the neap tide was lower than the Navy expected & the landing craft grounded on the reef, forcing most of the Marines to wade to shore. Eddie Albert was there & was awarded a Bronze Star for evacuating wounded under fire. What book do you have? Maybe I've read it.
This was a book given to my Dad when he was discharged along with all in the 2nd Marine Division. I doubt it was ever available to the public!
Ah. Then no, I probably haven't read that one... Wow. That must be incredible! Have you had it digitized? I have my GF's original flight records & some other documents. A couple of years ago I scanned them all in case the originals were lost or damaged.
My dad jumped with the 82nd in early morning hours of D-Day. Arthur Dutch Schultz fought through to Germany. Never got over the loss of his buddies in Normandy, Holland and the Bulge. #DDay #Arlingtonpic.twitter.com/mIeeoynA5T
On a bad day, I try to take a deep breath and think of the young men running up the beach, or parachuting in behind enemy lines. I have no idea where they found the courage. Every day should be Memorial Day.
I'm currently reading this @ D-Day/Omaha Beach by #JohnCMcManus of Missouri Univ of Science/Tech. Excellent read. McManus goes indepth on invasion, major/minor players & suffering/bravery. The men on that beach lived/died during horrid events.
should not ever forget 6/6/1944!pic.twitter.com/unaE0wvSmT
My dad was at Omaha about 9:30 AM. His LCT was hit, many died. He was stuck on the beach all day. A return to Europe after having left Germany in 1930. He was a radio operator. Worked for the harbor master and translated for captured Germans until being sent to the Philippines.

We never heard him talk about D-Day until 1994, and later, he would tell us he didn't need to see "Saving Private Ryan" because he had lived it! My dad passed away 6 months ago, and I miss him and his stories!
Our boys. God Bless these patriots.
WWII Vets were/are truly the greatest generation. Compared to the training & equipment given to today's troops what they did was amazing.
Those heroes look like they were all set to take care of business. We need to earn their sacrifices every day. ⚘
