Here's a list of the very first burials at Arlington National Cemetery on May 13, 14, and 15, 1864 -- in the midst of the Battle of Spotsylvania Court House.pic.twitter.com/WF0CwufYDP
According to one account, Lincoln & Quartermaster Montgomery Meigs were walking the grounds of what is now Arlington National Cemetery and Meigs ordered the burial of 12 dead soldiers right there & then. Actually, there were 2 burials on the 13th; 6 on the 14th; & 7 on the 15th.pic.twitter.com/vhqsqh0kqc
