I served under General President Ike. He made me feel I was 10 Ft tall when he addressed me.

I’m very proud to serve as A Navy Corpsman at Bethesda Naval Hospital called Walter Reed today. I was assigned to Fleet Admiral Bill Leahy as A Medical Aid. President Eisenhower visited him twice a month. He called me boy from Missouri. I was honored.

The pain etched in his face is palpable . I don’t think soldiers are ever really able to relieve themselves of the experience or pain of battle. Beautiful and haunting portrait of a man who cared.

A World War during a completely different world.

I totally agree. We have new challenges now and it still requires a Commander in Chief who owns whatever our country is involved in.

Having stood on that beach at low tide, looking up at the now defunct bunkers and trenches... I can only imagine the bravery of those who gained that foothold. I've served, but we modern soldiers can barely pay homage to those virtuous souls.

Thank-you for your very humble comment and for your service

He carried the weight of the world on his shoulders. Being in Normandy was an overwhelming experience for me. I can't begin to fathom how he felt at that moment in 1963. Forever grateful.

What must have been going through his mind? I know he took personal responsiblity for his soldiers. That place is so haunting, even for someone who is just an onlooker to the history he lived.

PS I got my PhD at the age of 53. You can do it!
-
If mine isn't done before I hit 53, my life will become an episode of Forensics Files!

Yeah, I was really glad when it was over. But, TBF, I didn't start til I was 45.

A very impactful image of Eisenhower for any who understand that time. He was the last great Republican president in my humble opinion.

I was there right after 9/11 and it was piled with floral bouquets from the French, with cards reading (in French), “You stood by us in WWII and we are standing by you now.”
