Notice the boots and the shoeshine boxes. My grandpa started selling newspapers at 8 years old. Started in the slums of Chicago when Chicago got its reputation. He pulled his family out of poverty by working almost everyday he was alive.

My father, as an 8 yr old in 1933, was told tales of the Civil War by a veteran. Almost 80 yrs later I listened to him telling a young boy about WW2...oral history is alive & well.

One of my relatives fought in the Union Army and died at Andersonville Prison.

My Great Great Grandfather fought in 85th New York Infantry. He was captured on April 20th,1864 in Plymouth NC. He spent 11 months in Andersonville Prison Camp.

My g-g-g-grandfather was in Ohio 65th and fought in siege of Corinth, Mississippi. Medically discharged on June 7, 1862.
