This just in! During its first day open (Monday, Feb. 4) - a day with snow and ice and low traffic volumes everywhere - 22,145 vehicles went through the new SR 99 tunnel! #99tunnel

How does that compare to the volume of cars thru the battery st tunnel/viaduct?

Don't have that number handy, but about 90,000 vehicles used the viaduct daily during normal (non-snow) weather.

Tunnel is currently toll free. Tolling begins as soon as this summer. No tolling signs on WSB, but signs on NB SR 99 just north of Spokane and again near Lander St. Exit at Dearborn to Alaskan Way/downtown will be last exit before toll. Use for toll Q's.

Can’t wait to take my first trip through! I expect the tunnel won’t hit peak viaduct numbers as there are fewer entry/exit points?

The #99tunnel was designed in combination w/a new Alaskan Way surface street that will be built once the viaduct is removed. Together they're designed to carry the trips that used to be on the viaduct.

Hi, I am currently a graduate student at the University of Washington and I am also doing a project aiming to find the difference before/after the tunnel open. I found this information is very useful, may I know if you are willing to share some data with me? Thank you!

More information is available in this blog post: wsdotblog.blogspot.com/2019/04/hows-t. If you are interested in additional data, send us an email at viaduct@wsdot.wa.gov.
I'm scared to drive thru that thing and I hate I5. Guess it'll be Airport Way if I wanna get over town. #Claustrophobic #BatteryStTunnel
