I worked for a state university for yrs. Big
drug companies (& others) come to Australia to do this, too. They use the ideas, labs, infrastructure, research. Sure they give grants to pay PhD students, but don’t share profits off their ideas, breakthroughs & backs. - 1 more reply

Great point about taxpayer funded research! It’s the same thing with much of the advances in technology. Many of these advances spur from taxpayer funded military research, that of which taxpayers receive either an indirect marginal return or nothing at all.

Government can't put a cap on how much pharmaceutical companies can charge or profit from thedrugs? You guys get involved in other sectors, why not prescription drugs?
-
The prescription drug lobby is strong.

I read this as "Our leaders are weak for pharma $"

While stepping on and quashing the medicinal properties of marijuana. They want us to die needlessly for their own profit. They want to charge outlandish prices so that the health insurance companies can make huge profits from us needing to take more and more meds.

Yeah, cronyism. We should stop governments ability to influence the free market. Great point Bernie.
-
It's the corporate lobbyists that influence the market and cause deregulation leading to economic collapse.

Stop protecting the patents.
-
Patents are fine, it protects someone's intellectual property. Issues like not capping drug prices and patent hopping are more pressing issues.
-
Patents laws in HC definitely have to change, they were set in different age in therma of innovation
-
True, but since it's the field I work in, I think scientists have every right to protect their IP. Patent hopping is far worse imo, I'd suggest researching the concept.
-
I doubt the scientists have rights to the drugs they develop. The company the scientists work for do.
-
In the UK, some drugs are developed in universities, and need pharma funds to fully develop them. So I expect it's a mix of university and pharma patents.
