    Bernie Sanders Retweeted Faiz Siddiqui

Uber’s drivers are employees, not independent contractors. Large corporations will do anything to get out of paying workers a decent wage and offering them good benefits. That will end when we are in the White House.https://twitter.com/faizsays/status/1171865967321702400 …

    Bernie Sanders added,

    Faiz SiddiquiVerified account @faizsays
NEWS: Uber says it will not reclassify drivers as employees in the wake of landmark California law, despite the lack of ride-hail exemption in #AB5. Lead attorney argues Uber is exempt from requirements because "drivers’ work is outside the usual course of Uber's business."

One of the main differences in employee and contractor is who sets the schedule of work hours. Uber drivers drive whenever they want. Therefore, they are definitely contractors.

Drivers are totally dependent on uber’s app, have no control over what passengers are charged, and no mechanism to negotiate how much they are paid. Uber/Lyft decide that arbitrarily

But the whole point of reclassifying drivers as employees is to boost compensation. Drivers are, currently, grossly underpaid, which is what brought on this situation. Uber/Lyft’s greed is the cause

Ummmmm..... They get to pick and choose when they work, or if they even work at all. They provide themselves their own vehicles, insurance, maintenance and all other overhead. They report to absolutely no boss. This is the exact definition of a 1099.

So when the cost of Uber rises substantially, and people stop using it, Uber drivers can always go to work for ThinkProgress.

Uber was a horseshit organization from the start. Ass grabbing anti-union anti-regulation fratboys sought to cut costs by dumping them on the unsuspecting "owner" of the cab. @AGBecerra has just let Google slide, and this will NOT be tolerated.https://www.latimes.com/business/technology/story/2019-09-09/48-states-are-probing-google-on-antitrust-grounds-why-isnt-california …

Meanwhile @car_smartt is already doing the right thing by always paying their drivers 90% of the fare. Plus they have many other ride-sharing features that Uber and Lyft don't. Full disclosure, I own stock in this company, but that's only because they are the real deal. $CRSM

Bernie, Uber sets the rules of employment. No one is forcing the drivers to work for Uber. It is a voluntary transaction.

Can we cut it out with the "Large companies" "Big tech" dumb labeling? Size of a company has zero to do with how it treats employees and customers. Big != evil, small != angelic.

That would be catastrophic to a business that is positively effecting people’s lives and stimulating our economy. Work comp would be mandatory on all driver/owner-operators. All you are doing is accelerating autonomous vehicles which will result in drivers being jobless.
