I wonder what percentage of people on here even know what fracking is and why we do it. I’m guessing below 10%.

If we just stop subsidising oil development and start subsidising alternatives, bans would be redundant

Or if we strip fracking operators of a lot of their legal ability to infringe on surface-property-owners' property rights in order to access the underlying oil or gas, that would cut a lot of the evil out of the practice

Or if we strictly enforced regulations on dumping fracking wastewater, a lot of the costs the operators dump on others would render the practice economically infeasible

There are a lot of shady things that fracking operators are allowed to do that abuse the public trust; without those it might not be economically feasible

Remember, the Oil industry has enjoyed subsidies to promote its own development- there's no good reason that alternative energies and tech couldn't receive industrial policy promotion via the same mechanisms

If we promoted a smart grid with the kinds of incentives the fossil energy industry has enjoyed for many decades, imagine how quickly we'd see America lead again in energy technologies

The folks in the world of #BattlestarGalactica would not like that..
