"Remember, there were no financial crashes in the '50s and the '60s, because the regulatory apparatus of the New Deal was still in place. As it began to be dismantled under business pressure and political pressure, you get more and more crashes..." – Noam Chomsky

While this is probably partially correct I would imagine that conditions are much different then they were then. Much more globalization now. We were kind of in the driver seat of the world economy after WWII.
-
Don’t forget the New Deal encouraged things like collusion and price fixing. And parts of the New Deal were proved unconstitutional.......
-
lol No. Less than a year after FDR passed away the Democrats and Republicans started to slowly repeal the New Deal. By the end of the 60s, the rules out in place were gone. Ask any Constitutional history professor. The 50s were the most economically prosperous era in US history.
-
That still doesn't take into consideration the affects of WWII. Europe was completely devastated. As was other countries where to battles happened. The US was untouched back home. So again you are comparing completely different scenario's.

Because for nearly 250 years we’ve had it all wrong, right Bernie?

Capitalism is only awful if you’re a lazy leech. The guarantee is Life, Liberty & the Pursuit of Happiness. That’s it. It’s up to YOU to steer your own course, make your own fortune, realize your own American Dream. If you want gov’t to do it for you you are in the wrong country.
-
If prospective employers' human resources departments are allowed to discriminate against people with my medical condition, this limits my practical ability to pursue happiness.
-
If your condition is listed as a disability you are covered by Americans w/Disabilities Act. Reasonable accommodations must be made. However, you must otherwise qualify for the job & be selected due to your superior qualifications & experience. Think you have a case? Lawyer up.
-
Does the ADA require employers to make accommodations only once hired or also during the interview? Autistic people with only social symptoms (those formerly called Asperger's) often do well once hired but tend to interview less well.

Bernie wants to ensure that we have better lives. Some people are totally against this. What is wrong with them?
-
Because a good life is a consequence of hard work and smart choices. Because who’s going to pay for all those entertainments and what rights or privileges will we lose so that those can be had? Because some of us can do math and budget - We know all that sh¡t ain’t free!

How do you provide goods & services to people as a right without compelling other people to labor to produce those goods or perform those services? And how is govt compelled labor not a violation of the fundamental human right of liberty?
-
Damn, I agree with you again. It’s been a crazy ride for me being an atheist whose political views continue to shift to the right.
