In the UK my appendix ruptured at 3am in the morning. At 7am I was on an operating table, 3 days aftercare and sent home with necessary meds. Free at the point of care. No one should be bankrupt over a superfluous piece of bowel.
Canada too, I was rushed to the hospital with a gallbladder attack, walked out of the hospital not owing a penny. Healthcare is a human right for all.
The thing is, we pay National Insurance as part of our tax on wages... That's our healthcare payment each week/month... So we pay for healthcare, just not at, the point of care. We have the choice to go private too, which I have occasionally... It's something every1 should have.
And tax wise we pay roughly 17 cents on the dollar for our healthcare, so we don't have to worry about going bankrupt for medial care. Canada isn't perfect but yes I agree everyone should have both options.
Absolutely 100% agree.
@CNBC got the medical bankruptcy story right in February. It really isn’t hard, unless you are deliberately trying.

That’s right Bernie. Washington Post, this one is dedicated to you

With over 300 million people in the United States, 500,000 is less then 1%
“500,000 people a year is a small number not worth caring about” is an interesting hot take

We need to get the US -and other- corporations out.
We need to stop and undo their restructuring of our healthcare. #NHSLongTermScam.
They are already here and they've been quietly very very busy.pic.twitter.com/p5RIzZuDL9
@OhStevenCarne I know you already know, Steve. But this is really scary.
I have incredibly good health insurance that pays for more than most plans, and healthcare is STILL incredibly expensive. The fact that people don't understand having a single nationwide insurer makes for incredible purchasing power is kinda nuts.
#MedicareForAll!
Accept no substitute.
Don’t fall for sKam plans.
#M4A is the only way to reign in healthcare costs and stop the 36,000+ lives lost every year to underinsurance.
If Canada can do it, so can we.pic.twitter.com/PyELu1T2Fc
