No. You are spreading fake science. The Amazon is NOT “a major source of the world’s oxygen” Please get educated and publicly correct this misinformationhttps://www.forbes.com/sites/michaelshellenberger/2019/08/26/why-everything-they-say-about-the-amazon-including-that-its-the-lungs-of-the-world-is-wrong/ …

- "Amazon consumes about as much oxygen as it produces" - 60% of oxygen used by plants & 40% by microbes breaking down dead leaves & wood - "Net contribution of the Amazon ECOSYSTEM (not just the plants alone) to the world's oxygen is effectively zero"
-
I thought at least there was a net gain even if it is little
-
I just read the net gain is 6%. Article in the Atlantic. The rest is produced by the oceans, and we're killing the oceans too- so it doesn't look good.
-
No, there is no net gain. You mis-read or mid-understood it.
-
No i didn't. And I just read an Nat Geo article that says 6-9%. Either way burning down the Amazon for beef isn't going to help the environment. I posted an article about that too.
-
It is one of the largest carbon captures on the planet. But yeah, oxygen comes from the ocean basically
-
Yes, it's not just about the oxygen. Burning down the Amazon dumps carbon into the atmosphere. These rainforests do not renew themselves either after being burned.

What caused the Ice Age to end? I wasn't here at that time.

Chennai. The city is called Chennai.
-
The average American has no idea what that is. I don't think the average American could name more than 5 cities on that entire subcontinent
-
Well, then it's a good time for an avg American to know there is a city called Chennai. :)
-
But the thing is In today's do we care about anything at all? We saw the image of amazon's just to look cool on our Instagram You may ask anyone now No one cares.

Going to have to fact check you on that last bullet. It's a misconception. Almost zero of the oxygen produced in the Amazon makes it out of the Amazon. Still very very tragic.
-
Exactly!!! more than 50% of earths oxygen is produce in the oceans by phytoplankton...
-
The Amazon is 20% of earths oxygen and two billion tons of carbon a year.
-
Again, not true. The Amazon uses almost all of the oxygen it produces. The entire rain forest could not exist and the level of oxygen for the rest of the world would go unchanged.
-
The Amazon uses it? Explain, please.
-
The Amazon does use it. I said the oxygen level for the rest of the world would go unchanged, which is the case being implied here.
-
No, I’m seriously curious about who or what in the Amazon would use the oxygen produced. I promise I’m not trolling... O2 is the byproduct of photosynthesis (aka carbon sequestration via plants, especially trees). So what happens to the O2 produced by all that forest?
-
It's consumed by organisms and fires. The rain forest contains 80% of the worlds documented species from microscopic microbes to large mammals. There is a lot going on down there and fires are very common every year.
