As an elementary school cafeteria employee, I would walk out if they told me I couldn't feed my kids.

I understand that we can't give away everything in life for free, but the huge amount of food waste at most schools is disgusting. How could I say no to a hungry 5 year old and then turn around and throw away 40 servings of food at the end of the day? The system is broken.
-
Also, they won't allow us to donate the food or pass it out to kids after school. So I throw away anywhere between 10-40 servings of complete meals every day, including fresh produce that could be useful to many families.
-
That's so wrong. Fresh produce would be perfect for snacks, or just bringing home.

Free? Nothing is free in the USA. Everything is paid for from ‘taxes’ (money taken from people).
-
I always love when someone points out that free programs are paid with taxes like its some big secret, we are fully aware that free food at schools would be paid for with our taxes, its a tax, that those of us with compassion, are proud to pay

Our schools here just started a new program that just visually shames the kids who haven't paid up their bill by not giving them a hot lunch. But forces them to go to a separate line for a super cheap sack lunch.
-
That’s awful!!!!
