The officer who killed Eric Garner has been fired. That is not enough. We have got to change how police departments operate, finally end police brutality and stop the killing of unarmed black and brown Americans. Here are some of the ways I plan to do that as president: 1/

Eric Garner and too many others should be alive today. Violence and brutality of any kind at the hands of the police is unacceptable and will not be tolerated when we are in the White House. Read the rest of my plan here: 7/7https://berniesanders.com/justice-and-safety-for-all/ …

No one wants to allow police brutality, but I do think you have to be realistic about the threats we face. Mass shootings, terrorist, bomb and knife scares, a less than cooperative public, often engaging people on drugs etc. We cant expect to put them in harm's way with notuing

Turn off the evening news and realize most of that is straight hype. The vast, vast majority of people in the world aren't out to get you. I live in Chicago and I feel safe here. I also don't watch TV news which sells fear.

It’s almost like the civilian population should have he ability to resist and defend itself against domestic enemies threatening them with violence and tyranny. If only the Constitution addressed such a situation.

An upgrade to the body cams is needed. Those cams should always be on and recording, while an officer is on duty. Additionally, officers should have no control over their cams and should accept the full surveillance as part of their uniform.

I think a better way to do this is to have different levels of law enforcement. SWAT should have the best military gear there is but we need a kinder, less threatening level of cop for every day stuff.

Agree. I dont think he is suggesting we elim swat though.

I believe you are correct but "demilitarizing the police" could be interpreted that way. The crazies are just looking for an opportunity like that to sour his message.
