The ideology of Socialism, and communism is to give power to the people. As for your experience, clearly the ‘socialist’ government was corrupt and megalomaniacal. Soviet Russia (Eg) was a ‘State Capitalist’ county disguised as a socialist one. Same with China.

So the government turns into one massive corporation. This is thanks in part to Leninism and then Stalinism, which is far too authoritarian for a workers state to actually function.
