I love how when people talk about raises for teachers, suddenly everyone has a family member or a friend whose a teacher and doing "insanely" well or some other nonsense. I was a teacher. Barely got paid enough to survive. Give me a break.

By the way this reads, I suppose you aren't a teacher any longer? If not, why not?

My fourth year of teaching I had massive high blood pressure issues and health issues and could not work so I resigned. Thank goodness I had my family. Don't know what I would've done.

I'm sorry to hear that, and glad you had a support system.

Thank you. :) Taught college for a little bit as well. It was pretty good but life took me in another direction.

Are they going to work 12 months a year?

Teachers tend to do a lot of post-processing and preparation in the summer. Is there time off, yeah, but I would argue they average more than 40 hours a week throughout the entire year.

Do they have to start a small business that sells bricks in towns with less than 200 population to qualify?

I think Bernie is referring to public school teacher salaries here (which are notoriously low in my home state), Matthew. Not university salaries.

Respectfully disagree. We should fire all teachers and use the funds to pay coaches (like me) and build weight rooms and football fields. Literacy is pointless if you never lettered.
