Meanwhile in Canada: My mom needed emergency heart surgery. There was no surgeon in the northern community to do this, so I accompanied her on an air ambulance private plane to a hospital where she had it done, stayed for a week, and flew back on the private plane. ALL FREE.

Go to a hospital and your only concern is to get well. That tranquility is health.

I also had an appendectomy two years ago. I spent less than a total of 24 hours in the hospital, and had TWO good insurance plans. I still owed $1k at the end of it all, and ended up not getting a stray bill (from radiology, I think?) until almost ONE YEAR LATER!
-
Note, this was one week before I was supposed to start graduate school, and my wife was about to start her senior year of undergrad. My parents had to pay the bill, because I literally couldn’t. Even with two insurance plans.

Meanwhile, everyone is missing the critical point that For Profit Health care creates world class healthcare. It promotes competition, innovation and new ideas. Making this a government function will stymie and stifle research and development going forward. It's sad but true..
-
Not true. If the Gov. funds for better healthcare n research to organizations, their profit is still there, government is paying. Competition is still on. N don't ask where the funds will come from, it will b from the same sources that pays for POTUS's family Bodyguards right now

People who love their private healthcare insurance haven't experienced a major medical event. If they did, they'd actually see the price gouging. As an example, you may need emergency surgery & get a specialist NOT covered by your plan.

Good to know! It won't be easy to transition, but it'll still be better than thesr exorbitant profiteering.

For those who think Universal healthcare doesn't work: Had 2 (!) foot surgeries w/in 1 year. Surgeries/xrays/doctors/meds totalled ~$100 including pre & post op care. Only significant cost was a removable walking cast which cost about $50. Even the crutches were free.

I'm from the UK, have paid into our system for over 30 years. Not really needed it so far. But when I need it, I hope it will still be there. I'm paying for the folks that need it now and hope that will be reciprocated in the event that I need it.

I thought Obamacare you forced down our throats that dumped millions off their health care plans, ran the cost up, was supposed to fix that?

Health care, like politics, should not be a for-profit system. Public service is not supposed to be self-service.

1) I think we can all agree that many providers (whether it’s insurance, big pharma, medical device companies, even some doctors) in the current healthcare system are money grubbing bottom feeders. We still live in a capitalist society & there’s one thing no one has addressed yet
-
5.) Also, after going through Medicare & social security with my mom when she was dying, I can tell you the gov’t sucks with paperwork. She was denied services she needed and charged twice for some she didn’t. There needs to be a better, separate, system in place for that.
