We need Social Democracy not Democratic Socialism.

I haven't heard this said before. what does it mean?
-
Democratic socialism means the state owns the means of production. It’s a socialist economy. Social democracy, on the other hand, means the economy remains capitalistic but government intervened when necessary. It also means having social services like free healthcare and college
-
While bernie sanders calls himself a democratic socialist, he is technically a Social Democrat when you look at his policies. He was probably the first to conflate the two terms.
-
You are right. I said that so people understand that they aren’t the same. I wish he’d clear that up and really educate people. I’ve studied economics a great deal. Hands down social democracies are the best.
-
Except whenever I read the word ‘solidarity’ (and that’s a lot lately), it’s a tip of the hat to Marxism.
-
Not sure I equate that to Marxism. Now if they use ‘proletariat’ then I’d be concerned. Haha! People just need to be responsible and educate themselves.

With open borders and medicare for all, who is going to pay for it when millions of immigrants will be pouring over the border and also want free health care. Taxes will continue to go up until there will be nothing left of america's paychecks. is this socialism or communism?
-
Half of these people coming over open borders have no skills and will be on welfare where they will contribute nothing to our debt. Will be giving free healthcare to ms13.
-
More than half, my friend...if we brought folks in fairly, uniformly, & taught them > English, our laws, & examples of appropriate cultural behavior, as a REQUIREMENT to receive help, like we did back in The Olden Days, we'd have a lot less problems. And SLOW IT ALL DOWN 4 a min.

He admits that the economic policies of the Socialist party have failed, but that's not the same as socialism failing anymore than Argentina is a distinct failure of capitalism. Underdeveloped economies that depend on imports to meet basic needs aren't sustainable.

We call ourselves a great nation, but we're the only one where you can get ill, lose your job/healthcare coverage, and then lose your house when the hospital sends a $250,000 "get well bill." This is getting to a breaking point, medicine has to stop being seen as a profit center.

But what about when they go bankrupt and fail?
-
What about the 717 billion military spending bill that 87 senators voted for? Surely that will backfire on the US and fail.

We spend too much money on both the military and domestic programs
-
This is literally the only moderate, non-hypocrite response I’ve gotten from someone that didn’t agree with me, and this, the only one warranting my response.
-
I do think that the national debt is a serious issue if it's not dealt with soon. I also think the US military is involved in too many conflicts around the world
-
And neither side wants to address those two important issues, which is why I label them the same. American imperialism’s done nothing but leave bloodshed and distract from issues at home.
-
I completely agree, and not to mention how US imperialism helps incite violence against us
