An undeniable truth here: Many who find Zimmerman killing young understandable are today defending ’s right to have behaved violently at 17. America has some soul issues, among them how race often determines sympathy and systemic prejudices.

Christ broke religious and cultural protocol to demonstrate love. Take the courageous steps he took with the Samaritan woman at the well. When history, tradition, upbringing and prejudice whisper, "Don't love them," LOVE anyway.

The next time you feel that human beings behind bars deserve maggots in their food, no fresh air and to be abandoned in locked cages during hurricanes, think of John Bunn and the MANY, MANY like him who have been unjustly tried and convicted.

Nonviolence pursues heart change AND systemic and social change. It is not a “Why can’t we all just get along?” ideology. It is a philosophy and strategy which requires us to demonstrate that “True peace is not merely the absence of tension; it is the presence of justice.”
