Certainly more work needed to better understand cerebellar functional patterns in OA and how this relates to cortical patterns. But, a first step we're excited about. Well done Bryan and team!

May not be suppressing the DMN like in past work. In the cerebellum, effect size analyses suggest over activation much like what we see in cortex for both instruction and feedback cues.

Very interesting age differences to error feedback in ACC -- YA show greater activation perhaps indicating that OA are not processing feedback effectively. OA also show greater activation than YA in areas of the DMN during processing of the rule information.

Does cerebellum parallel cortical bilateral over-activation patterns seen in cognitive tasks? Or is there underactivation? Using a second-order rule learning task we found, not surprisingly, older adults don't learn as quickly as their younger counterparts. But -- they do learn!

New preprint --great work by
@bjax2012 and Ted Maldonado looking at higher-order learning in older adulthood. Here, we were interested in understanding activation patterns in the#cerebellum in older adults.#aginghttps://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.01.22.914739v1 …Prikaži ovu nitHvala. This study included over 1200 effect sizes from 401 papers to look at different aspects of EF as defined by the unity-diversity framework. Age differences abound, but vary in magnitude to some extent. Check it out here: https://academic.oup.com/psychsocgerontology/advance-article/doi/10.1093/geronb/gbaa005/5707310 …

First paper of 2020 -- massive congratulations to doctoral student Ted Maldonado for his new paper out now in the Journals of Gerontology Series B. A massive effort and boat load of persistence, looking at age differences in components of executive function.

Saturday agenda: 1) improve dump truck and duplo building skills with help of 2.5 yo; 2) caramelize white chocolate -> bake blondies; 3) p&t docs during nap time; 4) watch grace & Frankie with
@CONGAlab This also counts as course prep for psych of aging.#academicmamaPrikaži ovu nitHvala. Twitter će to iskoristiti za poboljšanje vaše vremenske crte. PoništiPoništi -
Also pictured: the universal moving item known as the box of miscellaneous cords. Happens when you move house, and apparently lab. And you never toss them, just in case!

That co-mentor has successfully graduated several students who now have faculty positions but my junior status was still repeatedly noted and the co-mentor doesn’t seem to help. Are there any good strategies to deal with this?? Or are all of my current students just doomed?

My first doc student got comments back on his NRSA. Primarily helpful re: the science and training plan, and overall promising. But, he kept getting dinged because he’s my first grad student and I haven’t graduated anyone yet. We already have a more senior co-mentor.
