What a crock of nanny statist shit derived from half-arsed modelling. If we're so unhealthily fat how come we keep living longer and living healthier for longer?https://twitter.com/janemartinopc/status/972222158465150976 …

Because modern medical science has produced vaccines and organ replacements and a thousand other modern cures for things that used to kill people in their 30s and 40s. The fat person is still more likely to die earlier.

And seatbelts, food safety, workplace safety standards, childhood immunization, lack of civil unrest, low crime, etc. Fair point if you don't want intervention by government, but it not sensible to pretend there isn't major growth in obesity and related diseases.

I DO want intervention by government. I'm bloody well over the debacle of self-regulated industries. Government may not always get it right but it's better than the alternative. And some people NEED a nanny!

Medical science is why we are living longer. Do you know how many people have diabetes or are on heart pills.?

Lower smoking rates a big influence too, I'd guess. But the increase in life expectancy is slowing down. In the US, it's gone backwards for the last two years.

Unfortunately people are living longer with chronic disease, not living healthier. Mental illness, immune disease, heart disease etc are all on the rise because of stress and processed diets. We are overfed but under nourished

Surprised at your response. The present older generation is living longer but I believe the projection is for younger generation to die younger than parents for first time ever due to obesity & related diseases

Yeah, Access Economics churn these reports out more regularity than a person on a high-fibre diet. Part of me (the nerdy modeller part) would like to see how they derived their figures, but the rest of me just rolls my eyes and moves on.

Generally known to agree with you, but you are wrong on this one. Next generation is slated to be the first to not outlive their parents. As someone else suggested, get down to the lesser well off areas and look at the epidemic first hand. Obesity causes many illnesses.
