This is a great demolition of the "economy/property market/China is about to crash" rubbish regularly peddled by credulous journalists at the SMH and The Age. https://www.propertyobserver.com.au/forward-planning/advice-and-hot-topics/78293-is-australia-s-economy-built-on-shaky-foundations-that-are-about-to-collapse.html …

2017 The year of the moral hypocrite and their defeat. In Australia at least.

I wouldn't put this article on as solid as a footing as you suggest @BernardKeane. There's much in this article which strikes me as plain misleading if not wrong.

Examining Australia's 'dependence' on mining and agriculture in terms of GDP instead of exports seemed misguided. We depend on the export income to afford all the stuff we import from China and others, and these two make up the bulk. A collapse means pricier imports via xchg rate

A great article, but no one will read a story that isn't predicting the end of the world as we know it. People want entertainment, not facts or sensible commentary.

Now Bernard, this is why so many people remind us that economics is not an exact science. Opinion and art woven into an indigenous narrative. Pretty but not compelling.

Although it rings hollow now, coming on the heels of the ANU research showing a general oversupply of housing in Australia.
