So Eric if there are so many "dirty union deals" and so little scrutiny how come industry super funds massively outperform bank-owned funds? Are banks so corrupt/inept they can't beat corrupt union funds?https://twitter.com/SenatorAbetz/status/933161408270802944 …

    Bernard Keane added,

    Eric AbetzVerified account @SenatorAbetz
If the Government does change its mind on a Banking Royal Commission, it’s important that industry super funds are wrapped in to any terms of reference to highlight the dirty union deals and lack of scrutiny of the sector.

Now, now, Bernard. It's not called corruption or ineptitude in the private sector. It's called competitive executive remuneration and net earnings.

Best thing I ever did was change from a bank to industry super fund. With the bank, there were so many fees and commissions that my fund was increasing by less than my deposits.

Good question - have asked it myself. Certain some industry funds using or used to,smoothing of returns. So if a fund earnt 16% for a year they might give them 12% and allow the additional 4% to offset any future losses

Nobody can smooth returns anymore - can’t hold an investment reserve. Commercial funds don’t underperform for structural reasons IMHO but they don’t take sufficient advantage of their situation either.
