I’m pretty sure anthropology could answer why y’all are so convinced English couldn’t possibly just use another word.
-
if only there were some way of gauging by context which people were defending a word and which were clinging to their desire to use "tribalism" as a pejorative, indicating petty, naïve, socially primitive xenophobia. oh wait, no need: absolutely ALL OF THEM mean exactly that.
-
the most frustrating part is that these people think their spluttering, heaving, and groaning into racist dogwhistles is somehow subtle. "ugh, this is RACIST, NOW?" lacks the object permanence skills of a baby, as if their noticing it has summoned it into being.
-
it's been racist ever since it was applied to indigenous peoples to separate us from colonial self-appelations of "nation" and "civilisation," for the express purpose of misappropriating our territories.
-
Anthropology was literally founded on racist exploitation ...so ya bye
