Well done to the fire service for blanketing the entirety of Sydney in choking smoke. Slow bloody clap.

The bush is 100m from my house - its tendrils snake through Sydney. This is the smart time of year to back burn.

I say Hazard Production Burning. Proper science shows it doesnt help in catastrophic fire days. So why cosmetic burns?

Hit the nail on the head, 1/3 ineffective, 1/3 counterproductive, 1/3 produce small short term hazard reduction for 2-3 years at best.

Backburning can save thousands of lives. Your ignorant slow clap should be a loud standing ovation.

Sensationalist nonsense. When was the last time thousands died in a bushfire?

A rather shortsighted city-centred comment. Backburning when its dry and before weather too hot is crucial! Bloody NIMBYism!

Check the research; In 2/3 of cases it's ineffective or counterproductive. Best case is 2-3 years reduced risk in 30% of burns. Ludicrous!

And if bushfires killed people due to no back burning you'd be the first to condemn. Dumb tweet Bernard.
