        The idea is to create a perception (real or otherwise) that the the cardinal can not get a fair trial.

        Not quite, that's not what the IPA did. It would be as interesting as any political lobby willing to put money toward the prosecution fund.

        So they are just promoting the defence fund, not organising. In that case, it would be as interesting if lobbies promoted prosecution fund.
