Talk about a watertight case for massive upgrade in teaching of Oz history to Aussies (& not just kids). I rarely hear Aussies talk about the dark side of our past, yet examples of such from (eg) America have drifted into conversations all my life. We should face our history.

He’s IPA- can’t expect real political discourse where their dogma might be challenged.

Genocide, stolen generation, higher mortality rates,racism....and the PM does not acknowledge this as other than a few mistakes?

He believes in colonialism and imperialist dispossession, entrenchment of pre existing power structures and verticalisation of society through corporate power structures with a legislature solely organised to enable this. The soft side of Mussolini style fascism.

Truth telling is going to be very difficult. It may take a new generation of politicians. Maybe someone who is 16 to 20 now. So maybe in 10 years they enter parliament. Gotta wonder if it will happen.

Imagine living in the past and not moving forward. People like you just increase the animosity between aboriginal Australians and the rest of us. Not sure what sick thrill you get out of promoting this toxic hate. Disgraceful.
-
It may be the past for you. It's not for thousands of Aboriginal people who live the aftermath of it every day. I work with a woman old enough to remember when she, as a child, was classed as 'flora and fauna'... but she should just walk that off, right?
-
No you’re right, she should just remain bitter and twisted and go to an early grave from stress!! Changing the date won’t change any of that. Current Australians would never condone or accept that!!
-
Either you're being intentionally obtuse or you're not great at sarcasm. January 26 is a commemoration of British invasion and the ongoing damage that's come out of that. Rubbing that in the face of indigenous people year after year will ensure nothing gets better.
-
Rubbing their face in it?? Not sure what you do on Australia Day but I definitely don’t rub anybody’s face into anything! Changing the date is just tokenism, will change nothing. If you really want to help you should maybe head out to a remote aboriginal community and volunteer.
-
Ok... clearly no point discussing this any further. Enjoy your life.
-
No point discussing? Is that because my suggestion is too hard? It’s much easier to whinge about the date. It doesn’t actually require you to do anything worthwhile at all.

This is the great failing of our British heritage. Property rights sacrosanct unless you have a musket. And we’ve never returned the stolen land.
