The new "papers please" law from the Liberals is straightforward police state stuff. The fact that Labor hasn't rejected it with contempt says much about how the opposition has utterly failed to protect our basic rightshttps://www.smh.com.au/politics/federal/fines-or-imprisonment-for-travellers-if-they-do-not-comply-with-new-police-powers-at-airports-20180912-p5038i.html …

Dutton: "Police at our airports are highly trained in behavioural analysis" HahahaNO. Police "behavioural analysis" has been demonstrated to be bullshit. You really CAN'T tell if someone is Up To No Good by looking at them. Anyone who says they can is trying to sell something.

I love the use of the warm-and-fuzzy term "request". If it is truly a "request" one should be able to deny it without sanction. If sanctions apply, then surely the honest and non-cowardly term to use would be "require".

This is bullshit common law allows a police officer to ask for identification what happens from that point depends upon the circumstances! If you don’t have ID at an airport an officer would have reason to question you further and take appropriate action including arrest
