This is a lazy take Bernard. Twemlow's piece was a rehash of the tired, discredited idea that calling out racism somehow causes racism (among many other errors), and Murph et al are wrapped up in a beat-the-baddies-with-polite-conversation fantasy only available to the privileged

I’ve seen a few people contriving to make out that I said calling out racism causes it. That’s not what I said, nor implied.
-
Sorry, social media destroys nuance. Replace 'causes' with something like 'strengthens'. You claim The Left contributed to Brexit and the election of Trump, because they galvanize those who feel offended by having their bigotry called out. This is an alt-right talking point.

‘Wankerati’? So let me get this straight, white comedians and journos telling POC what ‘real racism’ is to be respected. And those with lived experience and years of scholarship of how race works are wanking around.

Never get in the way of the MSM and criticism of the MSM.

You and Katharine and every other self important media charity case aren’t smart enough to talk someone out of Nazism. It’s embarrassing that you think you are. Here’s the virtue I’m signalling: a sticker my wife and I tore apart in Collingwood on Friday and what we do to Nazispic.twitter.com/bIHZZMLEu0

Our “virtue” now is the eradication of the blood-soaked rising tide of fascism and you’re with us or against us, quisling

Awful lotta white journos today telling us we should accept the elevation of white supremacy as an intellectual exercise that has no real-world consequences for non-white people

Not that you’re trying to signal that you’re smarter and more virtuous than others. Oh the irony

Mate, I think it's more important to get outraged over nazis than greyhounds, but each to his own.
-
I think it's more important to do something.
-
Pointing out to journalists when they fail and suggesting ways to do better is "doing something", even if they, like everyone else, don't enjoy being criticized or having their power threatened.
-
Of course, if you give me $20 grand and a couple of weeks, I'll make a short comedic video to express my view instead.

As a man who has never been mad online, your take is important to me.

Well, this whole exercise has been quite useful in making clear which journalists get fired up to staunchly defend giving proto-fascists a platform and claiming the moral high ground for doing it.

I realise how little point there is in this statement, but do try and remember Bernard that you are speaking from a place of extraordinary privilege. Imagine being a Chinese Australian and watching the ABC give a platform to Steve Bannon.

Rather be a so-called virtue signaller than a centrist coward facilitating the broadcast of fascist ideals because we apparently need to 'hear both sides', like we didn't already fight a World War that killed tens of millions over this
-
Love when anarchists invoke WW2 as if it was their righteous struggle against fascism, as opposed to a fight between imperial powers over territory. You really think Churchill or Stalin cared about the Holocaust?
-
1. I'm not an anarchist 2. I'm well aware that they didn't and imperialism is a fucking cancer however 3. to the people ACTUALLY doing the fighting, and in the minds of the public then and now, that's what it was about.
