Too many on the Left are glibly dismissing Dutton like many commentators (myself included) dismissed Abbott in 2009. How wrong we were back then.https://twitter.com/mrbenjaminlaw/status/1032096481107357696 …

    Benjamin Law @mrbenjaminlaw
Am I the only one who sees Dutton possibly winning the next election on a vacuum of policy and platform of xenophobia? His entire political ascent is defined by racism. The last few years have proven swathes of Australian voters love eating from that bin. Stop being relaxed.

Not to dismiss Dutton at all but if he gets the gig and wins the next election on xenophobia, that just says who we are, voters don't get a free pass here any more than they do in the US. There is an open question about whether the media can do more to help voters.

The man does not respect the rule of law despite his history as a policeman. Dutton is cruel in the pattern of the evil enforcers of Apartheid in the land of my birth. I’ve watched this developing with dread since Howard. MSM wilfully blind. #auspol

The only way Dutton would have a chance in a million would be if the media debased themselves of any integrity to promote him & worked overtime to tear down Shorten & Labor Wait... Dutton puff pieces & #KillBill diatribes ready to go

Absolutely, Bernard, just like then people in the media are deliberately trying to make him look like a real Mr Nice Guy, while many on the Left are turning a blind eye to the xenophobia and racism in the community that would probably see him elected. It terrifies me.
