Fascinated by the number of senior journalists who think 1. the NEG is actually a policy rather than a political fix for the Liberals' climate denialism and 2. that a decade of policy conflict on climate action should be ended with surrender to denialism.

yes, everyone advocating for passing of the current NEG is motivated by politics, strategy, ignorance or fatigue. i’m looking for anyone who’s looked under the hood who honestly reckons it’s good policy or that it’ll do what’s written on the tin.

The media focus on gutter journalism with Emma Huser is another failure. They refuse to expose NEG in any detail as a political fix & another failed Turnbull policy. Crowe at Fairfax writes that politics beat the NEG 🙄 Newscorp are calling Frydenberg brave. Then there's Ullmann

Most journos seem addicted to the notion that virtue lies somewhere in the middle of any disagreement. To say that one side of politics is just plainly wrong or ill-intentioned seems to be constitutionally beyond them. #auspol

So the pendulum swings back and forth. At what point does it swing so far away from the centre that someone decides to take away people's right to vote?

        1) I’m talking about how the sides are reported, not about whether it’s good that they exist. 2) The sides aren’t equivalent. Take the USA. The extremists on the right include actual Nazis. The extremists on the left want universal healthcare and free education.

On point 2, those "actual Nazis" are regular people in their real lives. They buy groceries, feed their pets, look after their children, pay their taxes. Just objectifying them is not very useful. The question is how to counter their ideas effectively so they stop being Nazis.

Actual Nazis also bought groceries, etc. During the late 1930s and 1940s, it was found that the most effective way of addressing their “ideas” was by defeating Germany in WWII.

The LNP are not a party that cares about creating policy that works - NBN is a prime example. They tell people government cannot work, do anything right, only the private sector can, so when in power they prove themselves right. The NEG was designed to be NBN Mark II

I thought journos are trained 2 seek the truth, to investigate stuff that we ordinary mortals can't bc of lack of resources & skills. So, why are our journos NOT doing this when it comes 2 serious policies? Are they slack, scared or just can't do it? I'm curious. #MSM #auspol

Their employer sets the tone of what's written - and no media owner inAustralia has actual journalism on their agenda. Only political manipulation to promote the side of polotics which hands out 💰 .
