They should never be on. Ever. And if they are, they should be forced to disclose their financial ties to vested interests. It is nothing but a PAID ADVERTISEMENT. If you have ever put the IPA on anything, ever, then you are doing political advertising.

Sly lobbying like this is why they should be banned:https://twitter.com/SatPaper/status/1023383871444934657 …

And
@barriecassidy is trying to work out how they got it all so wrong just because they systematically replaced analysis with#LNPgov propoganda. Gee, guys, it's a stumper!#ausmedia -
I had to laugh when he asked the panel if a mea culpa was in order. I've seen people happier to have their teeth pulled out with pliers.

I will say this, that Katharine Murphy & Malcolm Farr have a bit more integrity than others, Farr especially as he often doesn't toe the Murdoch line in commentary. But they are not prominent voices against the cacophony of anti-Labor rubbish.
-
The problem is embedded in the entire question about "conservative voices" as though there are differing opinions on "facts'. Don't report an issue and then get an IPA stooge on to say that the sky is fucking red and then nod as if that is just as valid as saying the sky is blue.
-
False equivalence is becoming an expensive luxury as the climate-change 'debate' is proving.

They are also on Breakfast News at least once a week, and are also regular guests on Q & A. But it's not just about their appearances, it's about the fiction that they are an independent think tank. I will be less troubled when they disclose donors.
-
IPA a think tank? An oxymoron if ever there was one!

Just doubling down Bernard. Did you read my tweet giving reasons for not allowing IPA even one appearance on any ABC program? IPA wants to privatise the ABC. Comms Minister Fifield is an IPA member as are many in the LNP. Join up the dots.

i read it and found it disingenous that she only refers to appearances this year. i also disagree with her notion that guests should be selected on the basis of their politics not their knowledge or expertise
-
They are not exclusive. We both do. We must have expertise, and balance. I am not being disingenuous, I am providing our figures and being transparent. The number of appearances have reduced significantly but some have lost perspective.
-
i stopped watching the Drum several years ago, as did many people, because of that IPA overkill (why else would their appearances have been 'reduced'?); i have begun watching again now that you are spreading the net wider, finding new voices. kudos for that ...

I think
@ABCthedrum is great and relentless criticism ludicrous. But, still think if any organisation refuses to disclose funding these days, that should be disclosed whether ABC or any other news organisation. Viewers deserve to know, so they can take it into account.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Things must have changed then because I stopped watching
#TheDrum when just about every episode had an IPA Rep or someone who had worked for the IPA present. If it has changed I might just head back for another look! - 1 more reply

Julia wrote about the drum only, commenters are frustrated about influence of IPA appearance on all political programs, all tv & radio & most print media platforms. Think they just get mixed up.

You and Julia likewise dont understand the issue. Yes twitter is bonkers. But the issue is the IPA and the ABC as a whole. And how Julia talks about social media silos, but never mainstream media silos. And how the left twitterati are nuts but not how the right are also nuts.
-
No I have written often about the trolls on the right. I am talking not of social media silos but all media silos. In one: Sky and the Australian. In another: the ABC and others. This is worrying.
-
I will also add that the show has changed markedly for the better since you have taken it over. Why are people on social media angry? Perhaps the media could ask rather than telling us why. The lesser articulate people dont have a voice do they.
