The Turnbull government has demonstrated it will abuse citizens' private information for political purposes. Make sure you opt out of My Health Recordhttps://www.crikey.com.au/2018/07/13/my-health-record-potential-data-breach/ …

Just another intrusion into our private lives, no Govt has ever done more to poke & pry into our lives, the hallmark of fascism.

This govt can't be trusted, they gave confidential information from centrelink to a journalist in an act of revenge.

You're right of course, but here's the dilemma. I have complex, chronic health issues so keeping my records from specialists, my GP, medications, radiology etc is not only logical, it's really helpful, to me & all those attempting to assist me. I won't opt out, I'm beyond caring.

Bang on Deb! It's much more complex than the tweet and article make out. People will put their health at unnecessary increased risk, and increase their own #PatientWork burden if they follow his advice blindly.

Thank you Rhys. For those in my situation, it actually makes sense to put everything into an accessible pot. So much of me is already in multiple systems....but I use a VPN 😉

If people have complex health needs then they should opt in if you see benefit. The point if our privacy is being violated if they opt us all in #MHRoptout

So much. HIV status to start with. Sexual orientation. Biological sex- an issue for transsexual & transgender people who would like privacy. Emotional distress or trauma that a doctor may have categorised as a "mental illness". And a million embarressing or stigmatised illnesses.

Your record might note if you have survived FGM- a very destructive and private injury. It might have self harm injuries noted- which attract huge stigma. It might include details of sexual assault the patient survived, family violence, treatment of an addiction, like gambling.

No idea what fgm is. But for the rest, again i say so what? In most cases the people close to you know or suspect anyway and nobody else really gives a shit. Would i care if neil butler had AIDS? i dont know u. Sometimes bringing things into the light is freeing the chains.

Recent reports that 1 in 5 women suffer in silence following childbirth due to cuts or tears that dont heal properly. Most wouldve suffered endlessly thinking it was just them. Secrecy creates its own issues.

I agree there are valid concerns here, but there are definite risks to opting out that you haven't made clear, especially for those with complex health needs & the clinicians looking after them. And it's not an all or nothing affair so you can choose what goes in there.

Your opt in you put your descendants at risk. You put everybody in your lineage at risk. The first to gain access will be life insurance companies. @manjusrii

Depends on what you agree to put in there. You put yourself at risk if don't agree to have anything in there. Everything has risk, it's just a question of finding the right balance. A blanket statement saying everyone should opt-out is unhelpful.
