If the government succeeds in prosecuting K and Collaery, it will know that it can go after anyone who has embarrassed it or revealed lawbreaking, in full public gaze, under the fiction of national security, without any serious resistance or media backlash.

This is why News Corp has been spared from the prosecution - it might have provoked a backlash. The hope is a successful prosecution, uncontested and uncriticised by the media, will provide a precedent for further attacks on those who reveal government crimes.

This is a true "when they came for" moment in Australia. History will judge those who stood silent - if history is anything other than a tabloid fiction of brave politicians jailing those who engaged in the unAustralian crime of exposing the crimes of the powerful.

It may be because I'm far away in Tassie but I'm buggered if I can hear any noise from the opposition about it, too. Very strange 🤔

Thanks. This is really bugging me to watch. It's lousy, pathetic, and just inexcusable to treat people who did the right thing in such a way.

ALP are just as afraid of whistleblowers as the Government. Nobody has the guts to own genuine failure and illegal actions on our behalf, really.

It's baffling given there is always a risk of a fail happening somewhere at sometime. Most people teach kids to own their mistakes and failings then our leaders show them the opposite. Labor should be better than that. We know the LNPs teach their kids to deny, deny, buy silence.

Low quality gotcha journalism has its blame to take, too.

Not all activities were govt crimes though there's obvious corruption of govt by commercial interests to detriment of Aust citizens & nation. Aust needs a Federal ICAC & more challenges of laws which are harmful such as anti protest laws & so on, in the High Court. @AusFedPolice

As I understand newscorpse was the organisation that first leaked the bugging op. Maybe something to do with the LNP not biting uncle Rupert's hand...
