The future of El Salvador’s constitutional democracy, as well as U.S.-Salvador relations, are at a crisis point. Much is at stake for the people of both countries. See my statement: leahy.senate.gov/press/statemen

A time when California is is optimistic that the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic has passed, this school district made the difficult choice to stay closed. The losses among children, families and staff are still too raw, too recent.

In May 1991, 800 Latino households received a letter that appeared to be from the Santa Monica school district, calling Mexicans "brown animals" and reading: "We'll gas you like Hitler gassed the Jews." My piece on what the hate crime presaged: latimes.com/opinion/story/

What if Israel's killing of each Palestinian child in Gaza got the same level of attention and media outrage that the empty building housing the AP's offices got?
Maybe even entire articles and profiles of the families whose children were slaughtered?

When I became a parent, there was so much pressure to put the kids to bed early like many North Americans do — 7/8 pm. My husband & I could never adapt. We’ve ended up raising two little night owls like us 🦉

Sleeping over my mom’s tonight. She’s vacuuming at 11 pm 😂Reminds me of how as a kid, we never had a bedtime. We grew up living w/up to a dozen people under 1 roof. We went to bed when the adults were done cooking, cleaning, laughing, blasting Spanish TV. I miss those days ❤️

Nervous. My wife and I are fully vaxxed and comfortable going maskless when walking in our neighborhood. But we stay 20+ feet from other unmasked folks, and mask up if approaching any masked walker(s). How can we know who's vaxxed? And who's immune-compromised? Staying cautious.

Also I'm not sure what businesses are supposed to do -- how can a store tell if someone is vaccinated or not? Are they just supposed to rely on good faith that unvaccinated people will wear masks? Or are they supposed to enforce mask-wearing and risk protests from anti-maskers?

It makes me nervous even though the science is there. I'm going to be wearing masks until this has been going on for a good while and we see that it proves to be the right choice, and there isn't an increase in caseloads.

At the US-Mexico border, our lives and households are intertwined with communities in Mexico that don't have access to the vaccine. What does the guidance mean for Chula Vista, Nogales, El Paso, McAllen, Laredo, etc? Our loved ones remain unprotected.
