    If an algorithm has "mastered natural language", I would expect it to be able to do some of the things language is for -- communicating information, receiving information, acting on the world... Not merely output something that statistically sounds like language.

    150 yrs ago today the 15th amendment was ratified. It protected black men from being denied the right to vote. They were still denied that right for nearly 100 yrs through intimidation & poll taxes. Today it's through voter suppression efforts like voter purges.

    This illustrates a general concept popular among some: that AI could be hacked together on a party by a bunch of tech bros. I'm sure they can hack together a quick demo leveraging spurious correlations, but a safe and reliable AI is not going to be a result of such approach.

    I reject the assumption that quantity of code comments is the appropriate measure for software quality. It absolutely isn't. But, yes, software quality is a problem.
