While they mention impersonation, this change directly pertains to uploaders, not commenters. Those accounts usually don't post videos. They do need to seriously crack down on it, but without screwing even more people over by removing the G+ naming tools

Or maybe without screwing over small channels. Sure they clarified a lot of features aren't being taken away but won't clarify how it changes our discoverability, the algorithm etc and it still penalises innocent channels like mine because they can't moderate properly.

Because you're not really penalized and there's no real reason to think that. They've said time and time again that monetization and partner status have no effect on algorithm or search placement. Just because it's not the answer you want doesn't mean they don't give it.

where did they say it doesn’t affect search placement? where does it say it doesn’t affect the algorithm? do you believe something a social media company says? as if they don’t lie about algorithms

Tom's Take YouTube channel where he explains a lot of the behind the scenes decision making and had actual algorithm directors on. In various responses on social and etc. They purposefully obfuscate info for usually good reasons but they don't usually directly lie.

“for good reasons” i.e. make you buy ads, all social media giants are the same, Twitch is the only one doing good things by small channels

Back in 2011 YouTube was quite a bit more transparent about how homepage stuff worked and provided more tools to work on it. A few channels abused that and dominated every category of the homepage with giveaway spam and made hundreds of thousands of dollars or more and brought

About a drastic shift in both how YouTube handled homepage and transparency. Same happened with view count explanations, video categories when they still meant something, first version of tags, etc.

People watch them so they succeed. Just because you don't like the content doesn't mean anything is wrong. Hell twitch streamers get donations and sub trains for much less classy behavior n

but also views and subs aren’t an indication of quality content, but youtube makes that the marker of things like YPP. I have a tiny poetry channel. It’s not designed to appeal to everyone, but people who like poetry.

And if you keep at it and make good stuff you will reach that audience and do well. Nothing about the YPP changes will stop that other than how you feel about it. It's just a mental block.

Views and subs have never been an indicator of "quality" - simply what people watch. A site is never going to not promote its successful content. Doesn't make sense.
