What's funniest is watching Republicans who personally talked themselves into supporting Trump after initially being horrified not seeing the potential for dual anti-Sanders/anti-Trump voters to do the samehttps://twitter.com/willwilkinson/status/1225820804702785536 …

In 2015-'16, Democrats actively rooted for Trump, because of his *obvious* unelectability. In 2007-'08, Clintonites warned that a greenhorn black senator with the middle name of "Hussein" would be an electability disaster. All I know is that people prefer not to learn.

I'm not saying this *would* happen. But think of the logical leaps you heard in 2016-2020: "Well, he'll be constrained by X, none of that stuff will happen" "He doesn't MEAN that, it's just to whip up his base," "Look we can't give up a Supreme Court seat" and then apply them

This isn't a voter reaction, exactly, but it's relevant too. The difference between the 2020 Democratic candidates on issues like health care on taxes is mostly their starting point for negotiations, not necessarily where actual legislation would end up.https://twitter.com/JimPethokoukis/status/1225821535077851137 …

Why isn't Wall Street freaking out about the rise of Bernie Sanders? Here's why JPMorgan says it puts "the probability of major changes like Medicare-for-all or a wealth tax at less than 5%." pic.twitter.com/m90AuhvkJF

If Sanders or Warren actually managed to implement even Michael Bloomberg's stated plan on health care and taxes, they'd be remembered as a generational president for progressives given the hurdles in the way. This stuff is not easy.

Totally agree. That said, given the greater heterogeneity of Democrats, and the asymmetrical nature of polarization (Rs are more uniformly far right than Ds are far left), the drive to rally around the party's candidate may not be *quite* so strong among Democrats.

The flipside is that there's not a lot of polling indicating rank-and-file D's see Sanders as out of bounds, so less ground to cover. There's also zero equivalent yet of the kind of anti-Trump signaling you saw among swaths of elected R's and former prez/nominees in 2016.

People don't like politicians that use a lot of words to say nothing (see Buttigieg, Pete). When they hear Sanders or Warren speak, they don't hear radicalism. They hear someone addressing real problems with real solutions.

Would it be fair to say that a part of Sander's case is: Pete and Biden spend a lot of time courting these voters, but if they're going to vote blue no matter who, shouldn't those efforts be focused elsewhere a la non-voters?
