In the same interview, he says they DO take down material that they fear causes ethnic or sectarian violence abroad. A Holocaust denier shot and killed a man at the US Holocaust Memorial Museum.

What amazes is there was no leading question here. Zuckerberg's own favorite example of "bad speech that's not violent" is very fine people getting together to hone an ideology linked to thousands of years of violence that continues this second.

This is an insane standard. Who cares whether the false info is intentional or not? False is false. It isn’t impugning motive to recognize that.

In the case of denying something like Sandy Hook or the Holocaust, you can't argue about the truth or lack thereof. They happened. Full stop. There is no argument. Things like that should be taken down, no matter what. Honest mistake is one thing. Those aren't honest mistakes.

Are you trying to say the Armenian Genocide didn't happen? The sun revolving around the earth- that was accepted as fact at the time, & later scientifically proven to be false. You can't scientifically prove after the fact that Holocaust, Armenian Genocide & SH didn't happen.

I could be wrong, but I think the argument @rpkaye is making is that this is a slippery slope. Of course Sandy Hook and Holocaust deniers should be stopped. But those are obvious. What about other topics? What if one questions the Kennedy assassination?
-
What if it’s the 1960s and one questions the validity of The Gulf of Tonkin incident? Censorship has always fascinated me because it can be so obviously needed in some cases (such as the Holocaust deniers), but difficult to broadly define.

that's not what the quote says. he is saying holocaust deniers actually believe what they are saying - they are not "intentionally" wrong. which is why you need to allow holocaust deniers the chance to be on social media and be exposed to contrary views.
-
That's exactly what "good faith" vs "bad faith" means
-
If someone has an incorrect view, wouldn't it be more effective to show them why they're wrong, rather than use the platform to suppress their opinion? Doesn't it feed into their fears by stamping out all debate on a topic?
-
Nah. We all learned about the Holocaust in 5th grade. If an adult is denying the the Holocaust it’s out of antisemitism, trolling or worse

Bizarre. How did a man with such poor judgment and critical thinking skills become this wealthy and powerful on his own? It should give all of us hope that our billionaire moment is just around the corner, I suppose. Hey, guess that's what keeps folks voting GOP

He skipped the humanities in college, not surprising he's this clueless.
-
Every day, again and again, these tech bros prove this to be true. A science education doesn't cover these questions.
-
I have 2.5 science degrees 0 humanities. The evidence that I have seen proves beyond doubt that the holocaust happened. The lack of humanities teaching has no bearing on whether you are a douche or not

oh, for sure, this is just a wider belief of mine that his quote triggered

(namely, that it's noticeable how silicon valley seems to struggle to comprehend or come to terms with it's place in the communications landscape and it's responsibilities to society as a result of its actions)

I thought Silicon Valley was a comedy... But I suspect it is closer to documentary

Ha! Well, truth in jest, and all that! (also: "*its", maybe I need to also go back to English class)
