No real change is possible without psychological safety, so start there.

Everytime you buy something on sale, you're not saving money. The people who don't buy it on sale are overpaying. The sale price is the real price.

There is absolutely nothing “natural” about capitalism. Quite the contrary, capitalism goes against the very core of our human nature. Humans VS. Capitalism, a thread 1/11

But capitalism curtails our creative potentials. Capitalist workplaces inherently exclude the contributions of about 80%. On top of that, most of us are fighting daily for mere survival amid poverty, stress, and anxiety of economic injustice. 10/11

What could be more human than creativity, innovation, imagination & self-expression? Our inner drive to create defines who we are and brings meaning to our lives. 9/11

Humans have an innate conception of fairness & justice. When the benefits & burdens of our relationships are inequitable, meaning the lion’s share of the benefit goes to one party while the lion’s share of the burden to another, we feel injustice. 7/11

We naturally want to grapple & engage with the decisions that affect our lives. But capitalism requires that about 80% of workers have no say in any workplace decisions, leading to pervasive alienation in capitalist workplaces. 6/11

Capitalism is a zero-sum game. It undermines our natural empathetic tendencies by pitting us against one another through institutions that *require* us to trample on one another to get ahead. Caring people finish last. The most callous move up. 4/11

We need philosophy because no one was ever radicalized into revolutionary politics from learning mechanical engineering. Technical skills will only make the system more efficient, but we always need at least the possibility of reimagining the system entirely.

The assumption behind a daily stand-up or equivalent is that the team is a group of isolated individuals, working alone throughout the day. They need to coordinate. Doesn't sound much like a team to me. If you're actually working together, you're already in sync. No mtg needed.

Same thing happens in Agile. People who don't know about ellipses try to force Agile into a familiar model that's more complex than what they're doing now, so they reject it out of hand. You try to talk about ellipses, but they can only see those in terms of more epicycles. 2/2

One of the reasons the heliocentric orbit was rejected was that the math was more complex. If you put the earth in the center, there were fewer circles interacting in less complex ways. The new model was too complex, thus suspect. They didn't know about elliptical orbits. 1/

The weirdest thing about Capitalist ideology is that people come to believe that property relations themselves are a meritocracy. They think the company owners must be indispensable great men for owning stock, while the people actually doing the work are interchangeable pawns.

If you honestly think that you can be successful at remote Agile using antiquated tools or tools built for other purposes (Jira is a bug tracker), and can't be bothered to research new ones, 4/5

and can't put even a few minutes of effort or creativity into imagining how a very effective simple process like stickies on the wall can't be implemented using the tools at hand, how can you possible succeed? 5/5

I was asked "what's the best tool to promote collaboration." The best tools are practices and culture, not the wiz-bang electronic things the person who asked that question seems to be after. 1/2
