Obsidian Game Director Josh Sawyer has said Pentiment wouldn't exist without Game Pass
"I never would have proposed making Pentiment without Game Pass. Like I literally just wouldn't have done it. I just don't think it would have been possible."

Great interview where Josh goes into a lot more detail
He's basically saying a "niche" game like Pentiment isn't something he would have pitched in the traditional model because it would be so hard to get a publisher to pick up
Says Game Pass helps make games like this viable

Ngl this just sounds like he isn’t confident the game is worth buying individually

The reality is a game like Pentiment would not sell a lot of copies on its own. That's just the reality of the market
With a subscription the return on interest of individual projects matters a lot less than traditional model so helps make this sort of game viable to make

Guess this answers the question you asked during Game Mess Morning (or was it the Bombcast?) lol

I've been saying it. Game Pass is great for developers. Makes them take greater risks and be less formulaic.
