Isn't everyone explaining, and as I understand it, these protests aren't about independence generally, but about continued automony and no extradition to China for crimes?
Wouldn’t it be more honest to quote the polling on the extradition bill instead? That’s what the protests are about.
The extradition bill was already announced dead back to June.
Except none of them seriously expect independence nor are they really asking for it. They want to be able to choose their own governor, just like Texans can pick their own governor.
All Texans are American, they love Texas and US. However, HK permanent residents can already vote no matter what their nationalities are. It would be naive to assume they (1/3 foreigners) will all take China's national security into consideration if universal suffrage is granted.
The 17% neo-colonialists can move to the UK or the US, and leave Hong Kong
in peace. China is not interested in the Jeffersonian nor the Westminster democracy!!!
