So draining....Funny that
@JohnCornyn statement re: erasure of history is currently happening in his OWN STATE. Texas school books refer to slavery as indentured servitude. -
I homeschool my son and last year he studied the Revolution thru Civil War and westward expansion. They clearly defined both terms. I'm proud to say he was ashamed and astonished there was slavery.

As if Texas had textbooks that faithfully described slavery.
-
How many Texas history books explain the Insurrection Act, that it was because of fear of slaves rising up against their oppressors as they had successfully done in Haiti, that that Act was passed? How many history textbooks in any US state, talk about this?

I do not need statues to remember the Civil War.

-
We do, but not of traitors and losers. We need monuments to the slaves who built the country, even though it's nothing in comparison or close to righting the unrightable wrong. We need statues of Tubman, and King, and Parks, and more Black history because that's American history.

The whole reason Texas fought for independence was to keep slaves, as Mexico had outlawed it. I think Texas should stay out of this discussion.
