TIME needs to conduct serious research to understand the issue. It isn't nice to interfere in a sovereign nation's internal matters & provide a lopsided opinion. The laws enable farmers to sell their produce to any third party and not just to middlemen. It will remove middlemen.

Also the demand is about guaranteeing minimum support price to the farmers produce so that the Companies do not take advantage of their vulnerabilities. And why the government is not assuring that to it's people? That is the question here.
