By 2050 there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish. We have to do everything we can to stop this horror. Source reduction, new material development, cleaning the ocean, environmental policy, & new technologies/innovations all are needed now.https://www.cbsnews.com/news/the-great-pacific-garbage-patch-cleaning-up-the-plastic-in-the-ocean-60-minutes/ …

Yes, it is scary to see the amount of plastic that is somehow end up in the ocean, e.g., 1) More than 1,000 assorted pieces of plastic, including 115 cups, 25 bags, 4 bottles & 2 flip-flops, have been found inside a dead whale in Indonesia 2) Microplastics were found in sea salt.

Yes! All PLASTICS made on this planet should BE MADE FROM PLANTS. Then we get the cruise liners, then hopefully sooner than that more humans will be accountable for their role in this mess.

Plant sourcing does not solve the problem, the problem is plastic is resistant to breakdown, feature not a bug, or so we thought, being biodegradable now seems like a better feature not a bug

I honestly think @benioff that microplastics will be our generation's asbestos, we're only just now realizing that the microplastics (made when plastic degrades) get into our fish, table salt and drinking water, lodges in our livers and kidneys and likely damages them.

Microplastics are bad but fishing nets are the real problem, make up almost 50% of ocean plastics. Would also take less effort to fix that as there are less polluting points. Pareto principle.

Already there, just heard Robert Kennedy, Jr. saying that the weight of all the fish in the oceans is out weighed by plastic.
