The early stages train you for the hell-fest that comes later. The game gets tougher the further you get. Just an FYI if you game over, you can keep all your items when you continue by holding left when you press start if you've found the Hudson Bee. It's a lifesaver!

I have a feeling if you can beat Burai Fighter, you can beat Adventure Island II without too much trouble :)
