  2. I have idea how you would manufacture this but I doubt it’s simple.

I'm so old I remember dark mode on the Apple ][.

  4. All this AR stuff from Apple is technically impressive, but I really struggle to see many mass-market use cases - until the glasses ship.

  5. Apple doing a Bluetooth P2P mesh to find ‘offline’ laptops. Very clever.

  6. Like Google, Apple will now index all the speech in a podcast. It’s kind of ironic that the actual text in newsletters is not indexed (unless you already subscribe, obviously)

Marques and other professional content creators need this. Nobody else does. But the professional content creation class has long been core to the Mac's base and had largely been abandoned.

Thinking further: "sign in with Apple" and email-relay breaks all sorts of downstream dynamics in adtech. For example - this could really change how lookalike audiences work.

  11. Wondering about all these iPad gestures. Not discoverable, but then they’re also really only for power users. So maybe better to ‘hide’ them from people who don’t need them? Or is this the limits of the platform? Of course, normal users don’t know about keyboard shortcuts either

  12. Looks like Apple has had a go at solving pretty much all of the power user complaints about iPad. Fonts. Split windows. SD cards. Safari desktop support.

  13. iPad adding more windows. Going back decades, there’s a big trade-off here - it’s sometimes good to get two views next to each other, but as you add more power the mental load of working out what’s where goes up as well

    HomeKit for embedded Linux. Huh.

  17. Signing in and creating an account is a huge problem, for UX and onboarding, for privacy, and for security. It’s a pain. Apple should want to solve it. Getting devs to use their solution is the problem.

  18. ‘Sign in with Apple’. Told you so. But, devil is in the detail- aligning with the things developers needs as well as with privacy. What if I want to use the service off iOS?

  19. And Apple finally has its own street view (of course, all of this has value for autonomous cars. Note the reference to LIDAR)

  20. It’s taken Apple a very long time to start rolling out its own ‘ground truth’ for maps instead of just aggregating other peoples’. (This was trailed last year)
