To US Americans: your welfare is not threatened by a balloon. It is threatened by a ruling class that denies you access to healthcare, affordable housing, modern transit, living wages, proper voting rights, a stable climate, and a decent chance of living past 77. Know your enemy.

Here's the text that's been adopted: europarl.europa.eu/doceo/document It's not perfect by any means but an improvement on the European Commission's draft text. It strengthens the presumption of employment and strengthens workers' algorithmic rights.

Now the Council of the EU (the member-states) has to adopt its own text. Under the Swedish presidency, that text is likely to water-down the European Commission's draft. When the Council has a position, they then have to negotiate a common text with the Euro Parl. Long way to go.

Revolving doors between PNV, the big power in Basque politics, and the big energy firms. An editorial in a couple of weeks ago said clientelism is the biggest problem in Basque politics. Looks like it.

In Madrid, 5,000 taxis protested this week over plans for complete liberalisation of the sector. In Barcelona, Uber cars are getting towed away by the cops after a complete ban on their use from 1 January. What a contrast!
